You see the word “fragrance” all over the place. It’s on the back of products you use around your house and on your body…so should you be concerned?
Let’s start with what the word “fragrance” actually means. The definition of fragrance is “a sweet or pleasing scent.” In short, fragrance is a simply how something smells. What fragrance does not mean is that something is a perfume or cologne.
Here’s where the difference comes in: natural fragrance vs. synthetic fragrance.
Natural fragrances are made of essential oils and raw materials derived from botanical ingredients harvested from the earth, not made in a lab. Ambre Blends oil essences and body care products are carefully blended from the finest all-natural ingredients.
Synthetic fragrances are the perfumes and colognes you commonly associate with the word fragrance. These are made with synthetic chemicals, fillers and potential hormone disruptors as well as parabens, phthalates, synthetic musks and more.
In order to protect our proprietary blend of amber essences, the FDA requires us to label our products as a fragrance, although we want our customers to know that our products are made with natural plant-based oils (fragrance) which will always be pure, fresh and made with utmost integrity. As much as we wanted to get away from the “f” word because of its bad reputation, we are choosing to comply with FDA standards, even though not all companies in our industry play by the rules.
If you know the story about how Ambre Blends got its start, you know that using all natural, pure ingredients is the top priority for us since Ambre is highly sensitive to synthetic ingredients. If you don’t know our backstory, you can read it here.
Ambre Blends all-natural oil essences are designed to complement your body’s chemistry. These organic infusions are activated by your body heat to uncover your own unique essence. This is what we like to call the art of natural fragrance. You can find out more about wearing, sharing and exploring Ambre Blends here.
As our product line has grown over the last two decades, the drive to keep things clean and pure is something we hold close to our hearts, and we will remain committed to this moving forward.
All soaps are not created equal! That’s why Ambre Blends created Pure Olive Oil Soap to leave your skin feeling silky and clean.
Our Pure Olive Oil Soap is a healthy, rejuvenating bar that is high in antioxidants and packed with natural ingredients that are nutritious for your skin. Although you might associate olive oil with cooking and the kitchen, it has been making its way to skincare and beauty products. And with its naturally nourishing properties, it’s easy to see why!
The Benefits of Pure Olive Oil Soap
Olive oil has been used as a moisturizer for centuries. It penetrates deep into the skin without clogging your pores. Since it is derived from nature, it is free of artificial ingredients. Olive oil helps to relieve your dry skin as well as assist in treating rashes, psoriasis, eczema and acne.
Another ingredient found in our soap is glycerin, a colorless, odorless humectant produced from vegetable oils. Glycerin moisturizes skin by drawing water from the air into the skin’s outer layer. It forms a protective layer locking in that moisture. If you have sensitive skin, glycerin will not irritate it or cause negative reactions like synthetic ingredients would.
To use Ambre Blends Olive Oil Soap, thoroughly work the soap in your hands to form a rich, full lather. Use on your body and face as part of your daily wash. Afterwards, your smooth and hydrated skin will emanate a sensual and alluring aroma of the essence of your choice!
Did you know you can also use our Pure Olive Oil Soap as a moisturizing shave bar? Create a silky lather upon which your razor’s harsh effects are mitigated and replaced with a hydrating, smooth and pleasurable shaving experience that won’t leave any residue behind.
Get ready to GLOW! If you want your skin to look luminous without the glitter, we have the perfect product to add to your skincare routine. Get a subtle and radiant shimmer with Ambre Glow.
Ambre Glow is an illuminating moisturizer that not only is incredibly good for the skin but it also leaves a shimmer glow effect that looks amazing on all skin types. Ambre Glow radiates the aroma of Ambre Essence and can be worn in combination with all other Ambre Blends products.
We made Ambre Glow using the finest ingredients including:
You might be wondering about squalane and why we use it. Squalane is a natural ingredient derived from olives. It is an antioxidant-rich age-fighting emollient which occurs naturally in the lipidic layers of the skin. Squalane prevents moisture loss while restoring the skin’s suppleness and flexibility. Using squalane will lock moisture into your skin, help prevent fine lines and ease dry patches all while fighting free radicals. You can see why we love it for soft, healthy skin!
There are so many ways to wear Ambre Glow, it’s all about your personal preference. We love to use Ambre Glow to highlight bone structure, whether on your face, collarbone, legs, shoulders…it’s up to you! Dab it around your eyes or use it as a highlighter for your cheek bones. It makes a great addition to your makeup bag for special occasions, a night out on the town, weddings or any time you want a little extra glow about you.
But you don’t have to ditch your other Ambre Blends products for Ambre Glow. We have some customers that mix Ambre Glow with the Body Cream and Skin Tonic, which makes for a triple power packed skin smoothie!
Ambre Glow comes in a 4 oz. jar and trust us when we say that a little goes a long way. If you’re looking for a subtle shimmer or a new highlighting tool, add Ambre Glow into your beauty routine!
If you haven’t already, it’s time to make the switch. There’s no need to sweat it, it’s an easy transition and we’ll walk you through it. What are we talking about? Ditching the antiperspirant and switching to natural deodorant.
Most people are scared to switch from an antiperspirant to a natural deodorant because they’re scared of sweating. But remember, a little sweat never hurt anybody (sweating is a natural and necessary body process)! In fact, the reason that antiperspirants keep you from sweating is what is hurting you.
Here’s how antiperspirant works: aluminum clogs up your pores that would normally release perspiration, which causes your sweat to build up underneath blocked ducts in your skin. This also causes inflammation, bumps and bacteria that leads to body odor. Doesn’t sound very pleasant, does it? To make matters worse, those aluminum compounds in your antiperspirant are what cause the yellow stains in the armpits of your white shirts.
This isn’t even scratching the surface of all the harmful chemicals found in antiperspirant, including parabens, phthalates, silica, steareths and more, which have been linked to Alzheimer’s, cancer, skin irritation, reproductive disorders, developmental toxicity and muscle weakness, just to name a few.
After hearing all of that, what are you waiting for? Take your antiperspirants and deodorants and throw them in the trash. It’s time for a fresh start! When switching to a natural deodorant, your body might go through a short “detox” period (sometimes up to one month) in expelling the toxins from your body. You might have a strong body odor during this time, so make sure you are washing your skin to help battle the smell. You can help this detox process by exfoliating the skin under your arms and washing your armpits daily with soap (a natural option, like our pure olive oil soap) and water. After your body has gone through the detox, you’ll notice that the body odor is gone and you’ll be naturally smelling fresher.
With Ambre Blends Natural Deodorant, you want to apply and wait for the oil-based deodorant to seep in for a couple of minutes to prevent it from possibly rubbing off onto your shirt or other garments. We recommend starting off with the deodorant in Invoke, Solace, Ahnu, or Unmasque, as their essences are stronger and Ambre Essence is more delicate, especially if you are worried about covering the smell of body odor.
Here’s what you need to know:
Know what’s going on your skin! The ingredients in our natural deodorant include baking soda and arrowroot (deodorants), probiotics, coconut oil and grapefruit seed extract (anti-bacterials), aloe vera and shea butter (skin soothants) and Ambre Blends Oil Essence (scent). Our natural deodorant is 100% pure, all-natural and free of all toxins. These soothing ingredients will eliminate body odor while radiating your favorite Ambre Blends scent.
Meet Rebecca Fox, Executive Assistant at Ambre Blends! Rebecca worked at Ambre Blends from 2008-2013 as the Production Manager, then seasonally for the next two years. Thankfully, she came back full time with us as of January 1, 2016 and we’re so happy she’s here. What does she do at Ambre Blends? Anything and everything since she’s so knowledgeable about all the facets of Ambre Blends. From marketing and sales to shipping, production and customer service, she can do it all.
What is a day in the life of Rebecca like? BUSY! I work full time at Ambre Blends, part time at a busy restaurant in downtown Indianapolis and I have a two year old. When I’m not working, I’m being entertained by my daughter, Nola. She’s hilarious! My husband, Fox, and I are lucky in love with our sweet little girl. We do a lot of laughing, playing, a LOT of reading, coloring, dressing up…I could go on and on. Somewhere in there I try to make time for myself, my best friend/husband, my amazing friends, family, our dog and cat.
What is your favorite part about working for Ambre Blends? I work with some of my best friends. We are truly a family here at Ambre Blends!!!
What are some of your favorite organic products you use? Well, I use Ambre Blends products everyday. Since I had my daughter I’ve been trying to make the switch to more natural/healthy products in my house. I’ve gotten rid of all of our plastic storage containers and opted for glass and I’m slowly switching out all of our pots and pans to ceramic ones. The biggest change for our household has been cleaning products. There are so many non-toxic, natural and/or organic options out there now. I use different brands for different things; Dr. Bronners, Seventh Generation, Better Life and Earth Friendly are a few brands I use right now. On a side note, I’m a big fan of Pact organic apparel. Their socks are amazing!
Favorite Ambre Blends product/essence? The Body Cream and Skin Tonic are my go to products. I alternate between the two. The Body Cream or Skin Tonic is the first thing I put on when I get out of the shower. I usually wear the Ambre Body Cream (or Tonic) and layer it with the essence in one of the other scents. Right now I’m into Solace. I’m a huge fan of the spritzer as well. I spray it in my hair when it’s still wet, on my clothes, shower curtain, linens, rugs, heating vents, in my car…EVERYWHERE! The Solace and Unmasque deodorant are fantastic as well!
What’s a fun fact about you that people don’t know? I wanted to be a lawyer for the ACLU when I was in high school. I’ve always been passionate about standing up for individual rights and freedoms. That or a DJ…I love music! Oh and I LOVE the city of New Orleans. Most people know that about me though.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Outside of work, I enjoy hanging out with my daughter and husband. I also love spending time with my amazing friends and family, checking out live music, traveling, and spending time outdoors.
Why should people be using Ambre Blends? What’s the number one thing you wish people knew about Ambre Blends? Our products are handmade. They are light and natural in scent. They smell AMAZING and won’t offend people who are sensitive to scent. Unlike perfumes, we don’t incorporate chemicals into our products. We strive to use the best natural and organic ingredients available to us.
What has been one of the most rewarding experiences about working at Ambre Blends? Being a part of the Ambre Blends family and helping to create something we all believe in. We make products that make people feel good about themselves. I think that’s pretty awesome!
What was your first job? When I was 15, I got a job delivering a small local newspaper in my parent’s neighborhood. I made $40 for 2 1/2 – 3 hours of work a week. Not a bad gig for a 15 year old!
Anything else we should know? I think it’s important to educate ourselves about the products we consume and use both on ourselves and our surroundings. Especially those of us with children. While I know they’re impossible to completely avoid, I think it’s important to make an effort to try to reduce the use of harsh chemicals and synthetics in our everyday lives.
“Going green” can seem intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s the little changes you can make in your life to do your part in helping the environment. Did you know that the average home contains up to 25 gallons of toxic chemicals, many of which are in store-bought cleaners? Replacing some products that you commonly use with green alternatives is easier than you think!
For example, do you take reusable grocery bags with you to the store? Think of how many plastic bags they send you home with for your food. Instead, keep a few reusable bags in your car to do your part in going “bagless.” Or how about using cloth napkins at home instead of paper?
Cleaning products are often full of harsh chemicals that aren’t good for your skin or health. The EPA estimates that indoor air is 2-5 times more polluted than outdoor air due in part to chemicals found in many household cleaners and air fresheners. Make your cleaning products using eco-friendly ingredients such as baking soda, lemon juice, vinegar, tea tree oil and washing powder.
Going green isn’t only about the products that you buy and use, it’s about your home habits. Try opening the blinds and letting in natural sunlight. You can save energy during the day by not keeping lights on when you use the sun’s free light. And as a winter bonus, 10% of energy can be saved on heating when you let sun in during the day. While we’re talking about sunlight, did you know that having your refrigerator in the sunlight will force it to work harder to stay cool? Move it into the shade to save some energy.
If you really want to take going green literally, improve the air quality in your home by growing houseplants. A spider plant in the bathroom will help purify the air. Outdoors, you can protect your local environment by planting plants that are native to your area. If you have a garden, try setting up a rain barrel to water your plants.
What are your favorite ways to go green? We love learning about new green alternatives!
