ABOUT AMBRE BLENDS

Going Green for Earth Day

Earth Day is coming up on April 22nd and we love a holiday that celebrates going green!

Here at Ambre Blends, we are dedicated to being a green business. Not only does it create a healthy environment for our employees and customers, but it helps leads the way for social change. There are several things we do at the Ambre Blends Disco Hut to be a more sustainable, environmentally-conscious company…

Not only are we green at the office, but our staff goes green at home, too! Here’s how we’re celebrating Earth Day this weekend:

“I’m planting all my vegetables in my garden for Earth Day, and I’m also getting a lesson in how to properly compost. I’m deterring to master composting this year!”
-Ambre

“This year, we’re going to a local nursery to purchase a tree we can plant in our yard.”
-Rebecca

“On Earth Day weekend each year, I plant a milkweed plant for butterflies, monarchs specifically. I have about seven in my yard now.”
-Steph

“I had solar panels installed on my house for Earth Day. I’m looking forward to seeing what the sun can do!”
-Lizzie

“I come from a family of tree-huggers, and on Earth Day we plant trees on our family farm for generations to enjoy.”
-Amanda

“I bought a battery-powered lawn mower and weed eater to honor Mother Earth and limit my carbon footprint.”
-Jason

Women-Owned Businesses We Love

Happy International Women’s Day!

As a women-owned business, we love celebrating women every day and wanted to take this opportunity to share some of our favorite women-owned businesses.

If you’re looking for the best popcorn around, look no further than Just Pop In! Their gourmet popcorn flavors will pop your socks off and we love grabbing a drink and bite to eat in their colorful cafe located in Broad Ripple Village. Owned by twin sisters Mandy and Carly, JPI is all about celebrating happiness and that’s something we can get down with.

Need to add some sparkle to your life? Our friends at Metalmark Fine Jewelry have you covered! We love their unique jewelry collections that include a variety of metals and gemstones – there is something for everyone with their range of styles and price points. Follow them on Instagram to get the latest news on piercing parties and new pieces!

One of the most important ways we can take care of our skin is through hydration, and that includes drinking enough water. The team at Indy Soft Water makes sure we have fresh, clean drinking water available both in our office and our homes! Not only is Indy Soft Water woman-owned but they have a passion for eco-friendly water solutions from bottle-free water filtration systems to high-efficency softeners that conserve energy and water. If you live in the Indianapolis area, it’s time to go bottle-free!

Not only is 8FIFTEEN an Ambre Blends retailer, but they were one of the first retailers to carry our products! This boutique located in Broad Ripple always has fresh and unique clothing and accessories that we can’t find anywhere else in Indy. We love the items they carry so much that they outfitted our models for one of our photo shoots. Erin’s extensive fashion and retail background has made 8FIFTEEN a gem in the Indy fashion scene!

Located right around the corner from 8FIFTEEN, Lola Blu Boutique is another staple in Indianapolis. We love their handpicked selection of clothing, accessories, and gifts as well as their incredible staff. As soon as you walk in the doors, you can tell the heart and soul that has been put into this shop.

When we designed the offices at Ambre Blends, we had to include some accent walls using Eskayel‘s designs. This New York-based design brand is dedicated to sustainable innovation, and founder Shanan Capanaro’s designs come from inspiration by nature or travel. We love that she uses eco-friendly methods such as water-based pigment ink and sustainably sourced materials. On top of that, she donates a percentage of sales to environmental organizations!

We can’t forget about art! Michele Quan’s MQuan Studio makes handmade ceramic arts and objects for the home and garden, drawing inspiration from the writings and teachings of Buddhism. Located in New York, her ceramic pieces are handmade and hand-painted. “My hope is that the work serve both as objects of contemplation and as a source of encouragement, inspiring reverence.”

Travel Tips From the Ambre Blends Staff

Ambre Blends Travel Bag Blog

Labor Day weekend is upon us, are you getting out of town for a much-needed vacation? We asked our staff their best travel tips for your next adventure, and here’s what they said…

“I carry Thieves oil spray and colloidal silver to keep me healthy on-the-go. I also have my noise-cancelling headphones so I can zen out.”
-Ambre

“My skin always dries out when on a plane. I put a healthy layer of Skin Tonic on before every flight and I always pack a lightweight scarf (any season). I use it for a blanket, a barrier, an accessory, and it can even be used as a sling.”
-Cami

“My hack is reusing plastic gum containers for earbuds, candy, gum, jewelry, water enhancement packs, etc. Also, I string my necklaces into plastic straws so they don’t get tangled.”
-Amanda

“Always bring a koozie, and never leave home without a bottle of champagne. When I arrive at a destination it’s a nice opener to the start of a fun weekend.”
-Steph

“Ask the locals their favorite local restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and boutiques. Make a point to check out some of the places they suggest.”
-Rebecca

“Backpacks are considered personal items and don’t count as a carry-on on most airlines!”
-Jason

“I put plastic wrap in between the cap and the bottle of my travel products and then screw the lid on so they won’t leak.”
-Lizzie

And don’t forget, we’ve created an Ambre Blends Travel Bag that contains some of your favorite Ambre Blends products that are approved for air travel so you don’t ever have to leave home without your favorite scent!

Ambre Blends 20 Year Anniversary

As we celebrate our 20th year in business, we wanted to take a look back and the major milestones that got us to where we are today. Take a look at the history of Ambre Blends!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental Health Awareness Month

Here at Ambre Blends, we support advocacy for mental health awareness. With May being Mental Health Awareness Month, we have teamed up with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to share important information to save lives and help open up real conversations about mental health.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention has put together a Real Convo Guide all about how to start (and continue) a conversation about mental health. “You don’t need special training to have an open, authentic conversation about mental health – and often, just talking about it can be the first important step in understanding where someone is with their mental health, and helping them get support or treatment if needed.”

47,511 Americans die by suicide, making it the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. 12 million Americans have serious thoughts of suicide, and 1.379 million Americans attempted suicide. More investment in suicide prevention, education, and research will prevent the untimely deaths of thousands of Americans each year.

If you think someone is thinking about suicide, assume you are the only one who will reach out. Have an honest conversation:

What leads to suicide? There’s no single cause. Suicide most often occurs when stressors and health issues converge to create an experience of hopelessness and despair. There are risk factors and warning signs you can learn about from AFSP. Depression is the most common condition associated with suicide, and it is often undiagnosed or untreated. Most people who actively manage their mental health conditions go on to engage in life.

Looking for resources?

There are tools, resources, and creative ways to have real conversations with people in your life about mental health. Often, just talking about it can be the first important step in staying connected for yourself or someone else, and helping get support or treatment if needed. When someone is struggling, just listen. Let the other person share at their own speed. Don’t pass judgement or offer advice, just be there. We all experience mental health differently and that’s okay! Read the guides, share with friends, and discover real stories from AFSP here.

Ambre Blends Share the Love

We want to share the love, and get our customers involved, too!

Ambre Blends donates 1% of all online sales to charity, and we want to introduce you to the new charities we are supporting. When you shop online, you’ll have the chance to select one of these charities when checking out at shop.ambreblends.com.

Take a look at the organizations we’ve chosen to share the love…

Rainforest Alliance: The Rainforest Alliance is an international non-profit organization working at the intersection of business, agriculture, and forests to make responsible business the new normal. They are building an alliance to protect forests, improve the livelihoods of farmers and forest communities, promote their human rights, and help them mitigate and adapt to the climate crisis. The Rainforest Alliance envisions a world where people and nature thrive in harmony, and we love that!

American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals: The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) was the first humane society to be established in North America and is, today, one of the largest in the world. ASPCA was founded on the belief that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans and must be protected under the law. As a cruelty-free company, we love their mission of helping vulnerable animals and keeping pets in safe, loving homes.

Vital Actions: Vital Actions is a grassroots non-profit that is committed to effective eco-defense and social justice. Since 2012, their teams have removed an average of 10,000 kilos of plastic debris from sensitive coastal habitats each year, rescued almost 200,000 eggs from four endangered sea turtle species, strategically planted 28,000 native trees, enacted hundreds of hours of anti-poaching and anti-illegal logging patrols in vulnerable nature reserves, and more.

World Central Kitchen: World Central Kitchen uses the power of food to nourish communities and strengthen economies through times of crisis and beyond. Founded by Chef José Andrés in 2010, WCK uses the expertise of chefs to empower people to be the solution to hunger and poverty with a focus on health, education, and jobs. World Central Kitchen currently works in Haiti, Zambia, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and the United States.

Operation Underground Railroad: O.U.R. was founded in December 2013 to rescue children from slavery. They have gathered the world’s experts in extraction operations and in anti-child trafficking efforts to bring an end to child slavery. Since O.U.R. was founded, they have rescued 4,100 victims and assisted I the arrests of more than 2,300 traffickers around the world. Learn more in our blog here.

Ambre Blends & Operation Underground Railroad

Ambre Blends is proud to stand up against child trafficking by donating 1% of every online purchase to Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.).

O.U.R. was founded in December 2013 to rescue children from slavery. They have gathered the world’s experts in extraction operations and in anti-child trafficking efforts to bring an end to child slavery. Since O.U.R. was founded, they have rescued 4,100 victims and assisted in the arrests of more than 2,300 traffickers around the world.

The O.U.R. Underground Jump Team consists of former CIA, Navy SEALs, and Special Ops operatives that lead coordinated identification and extraction efforts in conjunction with law enforcement throughout the world. Once victims are rescued, recovery and rehabilitation for the survivors beings. They provide shelter, food, and therapy to the victims while following their process to ensure that predators are arrested, tried, and convicted.

Today, two million children worldwide live as sex slaves, and 73 million children under 12 years old are forced laborers. O.U.R. works to free the children and then break the cycle.

What is Human Trafficking?

As defined by the Department of Homeland Security, human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. Millions of adults and children here and around the world are trafficked for labor and sex. Traffickers might use violence, manipulation, or false promises of well-paying jobs or romantic relationships to lure victims into trafficking situations.

Human trafficking looks different in every city, state, and country. You can read more about human trafficking is in O.U.R.’s blog.

It’s time to get loud and rise up – children need our voices more than ever!

Wrapping Up 2019 and Looking Forward to 2020

Ambre Blends Team

I can’t believe how fast this year went by! Ambre Blends has an energy of its own, and that energy helped us rock out 2019 while preparing us for what’s ahead in 2020.

We had another year of growth – we’re constantly growing. The number of retailers that have picked up our products has expanded more than ever before and we have a plan for 2020 to continue that growth. If we’re not in your area yet, we hope to be soon! In addition to growing our retailers, our Ambre Blends team has also grown in 2019. Jason, Lizzie, and Vanzo have joined the Ambre Blends family and we can’t imagine life without them.

A lot of this year was preparing for what’s going to happen next year. We have a lot of fun things on the horizon for 2020 including new products and packaging.  We’ve got something coming in the way of new packaging that we’re really pumped about and I know our customers are going to get excited about too. We’ve been working for a long time on this, and we’re in the final stages of testing before we can share it with you.

For our loyal customers, we’re getting ready to launch a new program in early 2020 that we know you’ll be excited to learn about. Make sure you’re signed up for our email list and following us on social media so that you’ll be the first to know about it. Details will be coming soon!

We’re very excited to kick off 2020 by shutting down the studio for the holidays and taking our team to celebrate the great year we had in 2019 by going to the Dominican Republic for some fun and sun in January.

It’s been a rollercoaster of a year, and to see the team here at Ambre Blends step up and support this company makes me so proud. I’m really excited about 2020 and what it has in store for us. Thank you for supporting Ambre Blends and being on this journey with us. Happy holidays!

Yoga at Ambre Blends

I think it is important to create a healthy atmosphere and lifestyle not just at home but at your workplace, too. Everyone at Ambre Blends was on board and excited when we decided to stop each week for an hour and practice yoga together. It not only brings us closer as a team but it also helps us individually with focus, alleviating stress, increasing productivity, and overall well-being.

Our teacher, Sara Brown (who is truly the best), puts so much into her lessons. She infuses meditation with an affirmation or lesson on top of the work (we practice all types of yoga). She puts so much into each class including customizing a playlist each week, which always hits the soul in the right way every time!

We asked Sara about her experience teaching yoga at Ambre Blends, and here’s what she had to say:
“I am not shy about sharing how incredibly grateful I am to be guiding at Ambre Blends. I share with the staff frequently that it is my favorite part of the week to be in that space. It is sacred. It is vulnerable. It is beautiful to witness the love and support that they offer one another. They are open and willing to try new things with their bodies and their breath. They are all uniquely different and I cherish the texture that they each individually bring to that space. I now call many of them friends, and know I am going to be met with a smile when I walk in the door each week. Mostly, it is healing to see the environment in which Ambre, Adam, and Steph have cultivated for their staff, one in which they are cared for deeply physically, emotionally, and spiritually.”

Personally, Sara has made it an addiction for me…I simply can not get enough!

xx
Ambre

A little bit about Sara Brown:

“My yoga journey began way back in high school. I took an advanced physical education course that included a small chapter on yoga. Needless to say, it was different than any other form of exercise I had been exposed to before. I dabbled sporadically in it during my early 20s before meeting my dear friend Fran Valentine. I was lucky enough to have her beautiful spirit as my teacher, my guru. She effortlessly guided me into the foundations of yoga, and I have had a dedicated practice since 2005.

The calling came to dive into yoga teach training in 2014. At that time, I was not seeking to be a teacher, I was interested in deepening my own practice and working through some personal life challenges I was facing in that moment. It was such a delicious spiritual awakening, one that will forever be etched into my life.

Yoga had become my therapy, my church. The takeaway for me is and always will be that yoga doesn’t change your life, it changes you for life.

At the end of my training, someone asked me where I was going to teach. My responses was I really hadn’t planned on teaching at all. They posed this amazing question: how can you have this deep knowledge and not share it with people?

As someone who is a lifelong student and ‘guru’ in my professional life, this really struck a chord. So here I am, sharing my ‘gospel’ with whoever will listen. I have been blessed with many teaching opportunities since then!”

Ambre Blends donates 1% of all online sales to charity, and we want to introduce you to the five new charities we are supporting! When you shop online, you’ll have the chance to select one environmentally-focused charity from a list of five (three global, one regional, and one local to us in Indiana) when checking out at shop.ambreblends.com. The Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Service: MOSES is a nonprofit that provides education, resources, and practical advice to help farmers grow using sustainable, organic practices. MOSES also educates farmers about specific farming practices through MOSES Organic Field Days. These on-farm events give farmers the chance to see firsthand how successful organic farmers manage their operations. Follow them on Facebook and Twitter.

The Elephant ProjectDid you know that in Africa, 100 elephants are killed every day for their ivory? And that number is increasing yearly. The Elephant Project has developed new ideas and new solutions to address the threats to elephant survival, providing them a new future free of cruelty and death at the hands of humans. Their three-prong strategy is designed to provide immediate protections to elephants while developing long term sustainable solutions to end this epic struggle. Learn more on Facebook and Instagram.

The Humane Society of the United StatesWith your help, The Humane Society fights the big fights, working to end all forms of animal cruelty and achieve the vision behind their name – a humane society. The Humane Society and their affiliates provide direct care to more than 100,000 animals each year—more than any other animal welfare organization—through sanctuaries, veterinary programs and emergency shelters and rescues. You can follow them on Facebook and Instagram.

Hoosier Environmental CouncilWe always like to give some local love to our home state! The Hoosier Environmental Council is the voice of the people for the environment in Indiana. HEC is the organization with the passion and the plan to tackle our environmental challenges and help make our state a healthier, better place to live and do business. HEC works to reduce barriers to sustainable energy use, cut down on pollution and greenhouse gas emissions associated with factory farms, strengthen drinking water protections, and safeguard wilderness areas. Check them out on Facebook and Instagram to learn more.

La Via Campesina: As a grassroots organization headquartered in New York City, La Via Campesina strives to unite peasants, the landless, female farmers, and rural youth to defend small-scale sustainable agriculture on a global scale. It is the international peasants’ movement that currently represents 200 million farmers from 164 local and national organizations in 73 countries. La Via Campesina routinely participates in discussions on food policy with the U.N. Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Ambre Blends Goes Green

Here at Ambre Blends, we are dedicated to being a green business. When we moved into our current building, we knew we wanted to do more to be green. Not only does it create a healthy environment for our employees and customers, but it helps leads the way for social change. Here are few ways we try to be a more sustainable, environmentally-conscious company.

Does your office have a water cooler? In our office, we use Bottle Free Indy to keep us hydrated and happy. These bottle-free water coolers provide us with three different temperatures for one low monthly cost, which is easy for both us and the planet. Plastic water jugs used by water delivery companies often contain Bisphenol A (BPA), a compound that has been linked to health issues. With bottle-free, we don’t have to worry about our health and the quality of our drinking water.

Ambre Blends also participates in IPL’s Green Power option to support environmentally friendly, renewable energy sources. What that means is that 100% of our electricity use is to be generated by renewable sources such as Indiana wind farms. If nature is making it, why shouldn’t we use this sustainable energy source? This, in turn, reduces our reliance on fossil-fueled power. IPL’s Green Power is available to both residential and commercial customers.

In addition to IPL’s Green Power, we use all LED lighting at the Ambre Blends Disco Hut. To make sure lights aren’t kept on, we use light timers and occupancy sensors to reduce electrical usage.

When it comes to printing and packaging, we have been printing all of our marketing material on FSC certified paper. You might notice the FSC-Certified stamp on our materials, which stands for Forest Stewardship Council. The Forest Stewardship Council certification gives customers the option to choose forest products like paper and wood that have been sourced in an environmentally-friendly, socially responsible and economically viable manner. Our fill paper is 100% recycled and all of our packaging is curbside recyclable, biodegradable renewable.

Our packaging is recyclable and uses biodegradable materials to keep your products safe while they travel to you. We use a patented machine called Geami to package our orders. The Geami uses environmentally friendly paper through a patented process to protect items from damages.

Speaking of recycling, we practice what we preach in-house as well. We recycle on a five-to-one basis, meaning that we only go through one bag of trash for every five bags of recycling at the Ambre Blends Disco Hut. In addition, we also recycle and reuse all packaging materials sent to us!

We have created refill bottles for your favorite Ambre Blends products to not only save you money but to help save the environment. For example, we sell 30ml refill bottles of our Oil Essences to refill your 10ml roll-ons. You save more than 15% when you buy a 30ml bottle and have less waste than buying three 10 ml roll-ons. You can purchase the larger refill bottles in the Body Cream and Spritzers as well.

Using green business practices can help us prevent the waste of natural resources, reduce our ecological footprint, improve our health and even save you money in the long run. Green business is smart business. Do you practice corporate social responsibility?
