Share the Love: Ocean Conservatory

Did you know that Ambre Blends donates 1% of all online sales to charity? When you shop online, you have the chance to select one environmentally-focused charity for a list of five. One of those organizations is Ocean Conservatory, a movement to protect our oceans.

Our ocean faces many threats like the onslaught of ocean trash, overfishing, and ocean acidification. With your help, Ocean Conservancy is developing innovative solutions to protect and save the ocean from today’s greatest global challenges. The ocean is at the center of who we are. What happens to the ocean impacts all of us; it produces half the air we breathe every day, the food we eat, and the water we drink. “What happens to the ocean impacts all of us,” said Janis Searles Jones, CEO of Ocean Conservancy.

Since it was founded in 1972, Ocean Conservancy has accomplished many incredible things for whales and wildlife, local communities, and the ocean. One of the first initiatives was the Whale Protection Fund, which focused on saving whales and protesting commercial whaling by Russia and Japan. Ocean Conservancy raised support to invest in scientific research and launched petitions to raise awareness about the whaling industry. That paid off when the International Whaling Commission finally banned commercial whaling in 1982.

While their work in the early years focused on saving different species that live in the ocean, they knew they couldn’t protect these species without protecting their habitat, which is when they shifted to a more ecosystem-based approach. Ocean Conservancy was one of the first environmental organizations to engage industries in conservation, which is still a key part of their mission today.

Over the years, the mission of Ocean Conservancy grew and solidified to make them who they are now: a science-based organization that stands on the absolute conviction that each individual can make a positive difference for our ocean. Ocean Conservancy is dedicated to finding solutions to the biggest threats facing our ocean. The ocean is our responsibility, what happens to it impacts all of us.

Share the Love: Central Indiana Land Trust

Did you know that Ambre Blends donates 1% of all online sales to charity? When you shop online, you have the opportunity to select one environmentally-focused charity from a list of five when checking out!

We wanted to give some local Indiana love to the Central Indiana Land Trust, which is one of the five charities you can choose from when checking out.

“The availability of natural areas and wildlife directly relate to the quality of life.”

Central Indiana Land Trust preserves Central Indiana’s natural areas, protecting plants and animals, so that Hoosiers can experience the wonder of the state’s natural heritage. This community-supported organization protects natural habitats to enhance and improve the quality of life in Central Indiana. Not only do they protect these landscapes, but they collaborate with the community to care for them.

The Central Indiana Land Trust pursues its mission by assessing, acquiring, and protecting properties that represent the best of Indiana’s natural and working landscapes. In collaboration with willing landowners, they protect those lands that help to define Indiana. You can check out some of their conservation stories here.

Land trusts are also referred to as conservancies, foundations, and associations, but they all have the same mission: to protect land permanently. Land trusts may own and manage properties, monitor the restrictions they have helped establish for land owners, and/or work in partnership with other agencies to protect land. These are funded largely through membership dues and/or donations from individuals, businesses, and foundations. Which is where our Share the Love campaign comes in!

The Central Indiana Land Trust has a vision of a future in which preserves, parks, and working landscapes add to our sense of place; where intact natural ecosystems clean and improve our air and water while also providing a home for native plants and animals; and where we can escape the stresses of life and find solace in the wonder of our natural heritage. This fosters sustainable communities with healthy environments, vibrant economies, and better quality of life. That’s something we can get down with!
